Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) for sun-damaged skin

What is IPL?

This latest technology is a treatment breakthrough that can correct a wide variety of skin conditions including facial skin imperfections, benign skin conditions, smaller unsightly veins, sun damage, birthmarks and other blemishes. IPL is a safe, non-invasive treatment that can be tailored to one's individual condition and skin type. IPL provides superior cosmetic results and satisfaction through a process called photorejuvenation.

How is Photorejuvenation performed?

A cold gel is applied to the treatment area. The smooth surface of the IPL handpiece is applied to the skin as pulses of light are applied.

What does it feel like?

Most patients feel a slight sting such as a rubber band snapping on the skin. Anesthetic topical may be used for persons with low pain tolerance, but is seldom used.

How long does it take?

Treatments times vary depending on the size and condition of the area to be treated. Usually treatment sessions last from 15-30 minutes. Treatments are most often administered in a series of 4-6 sessions to maximize long-term results.

Why are multiple treatments necessary?

The number of sessions primarily depends upon the number of conditions severity of those conditions within the treatment area. Dividing the program into several treatment areas provides gradual improvement with the lowest amount of risk, thus preserving the opportunity for zero downtime. After each treatment, the patient may return to normal activity immediately.

What conditions does Photorejuvenation treat?

Regardless of how healthy you feel, facial imperfections can detract from your well being, appearance, and/or self-esteem. After the proper number of treatments, patients, have smoother, younger-looking skin, without the unwanted pigmentation. This treatment can be used on the neck, chest, arms, and hands as well.
