Yag Laser for vascular lesions
How does Yag work?
The laser emits an intense beam of laser light that is selectively absorbed by abnormally large vessels. This absorption causes thermal destruction of the vessel. The absorption is so precise, that surrounding tissue is minimally affected, while the lesion is destroyed.
What is the treatment like?
The patient reclines in a relaxing chair or lies face down on a comfortable treatment table, depending on the area to be treated. Most patients describe a moderate stinging during the treatment. After the lesion is treated, redness will occur for 1-4 days. Normal activities can be resumed immediately, however it is recommended that aerobic activity, hot baths, or massage be postponed until 5 days post-treatment. Depending on the size of the vascular lesion, compression devices may be necessary.
